Position Description

Chemical Dependency RN – Days (13-Week Contract)

Position Details

  • Facility: St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center
  • Location: Lewiston, ME 04240
  • Specialty: Alcohol & Addiction RN
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hrs/week
  • Pay Rate: $66.00 /hour
  • Weekly Gross: $2,376 (based on 36 hours)
  • Note: To qualify for the $66/hr rate, your permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the hospital. Otherwise, the rate is $60/hr.
  • Contract Type: Traveler (must not be a previous employee of St. Mary’s)

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Active RN license
  • Behavioral Health experience (required)
  • BLS certification
  • CPI training
  • Demonstrated competency in:
  • Application of restraints
  • Implementation of seclusion
  • Monitoring, assessment, and care of patients in restraint or seclusion

Floating Requirement

Willingness to float to the Inpatient Adult Behavioral Health and Detox units as needed.

Unit Overview & Responsibilities

As the RN on the Adult Chemical Dependency Unit, you will:

  • Conduct thorough admission interviews and systematic physical assessments.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to identify needs for additional services.
  • Develop, implement, and revise individualized patient care plans.
  • Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the nursing process.
  • Document patient conditions, interventions, and responses accurately in the EHR.
  • Provide patient education and facilitate group therapy sessions.

The Adult Chemical Dependency Unit (D4 Wing) serves patients aged 15 and older with physiological dependencies on alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and other substances. Many patients present with comorbid psychiatric diagnoses such as depression, psychosis, or bipolar disorder. The unit operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
